I am so excited to announce that I will be doing a Blog Collaboration with the Wonderful Ellie from Read to Ramble . We started plotting and planning this little project after we both started doing the Down the TBR hole posts (Eliie is succeeding far better than I am) and both realised we had the Shadowhunters books on our TBRs but hadn’t actually read the series!
I am so glad Ellie agreed to do this with me. She is one of the kindest most supportive bloggers out there fiercely promoting both authors and other bloggers. She is impossibly sweet, kind and funny always ready to uplift others. Her reading tastes are extremely broad that she will have reviewed something to suit everyone. At this point I will also have to say A big thank you the Dave at TheWriteReads with out his formation of our (what is the collective noun for a group of bloggers) ragtag group of overly chatty bloggers I wouldnt have had the please of meeting Ellie or the other amazing and supportive bloggers I now have as friends!
So what is Shadowhunter Saturday all about?
Ellie and I have decided to undertake the mammoth task to read all the books in Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunters Chronicles. Its a daunting task we have 14 novels to read with 4 more on the way, not to mention the companion short story collections. So the aim is over the next, lets face it, couple of years we aim to work our way through these, pausing on some saturdays to share posts on thoughts about the books, series and the whole realm of shadow-hunters in general.
I will admit I am not going in blind. I have quite a while ago read the first book City of Bones. But if I am being honest I don’t remember much of what happened. I also vaguely remember watching a couple of episodes of the series on Netflix but stopping so I could read the books and then never actually got around to it. This series is both loved and reviled in equal measure and I have to kind of find out what that is about for myself. Will I love it or will I find fault? We will just have to find out in the discussions.
With such a large universe and several series to choose from you can find all kinds of debate as to what is the best way to read these books. Do we read them in publication order, Series order, chronologically by events/setting? Ellie and I got down to some research and decided to stick with the suggested order by Cassandra Clare herself! We came across this order in a port by Riveted which gives options of all different reading orders.
We will be reading the books as follows:
The Mortal Instruments Books 1-3
The Infernal Devices
The Mortal Instruments Books 4-6
Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy
The Dark Artifices
The Last Hours
The Eldest Curses
The Red Scrolls of Magic
The Lost Book of the White (September 2020)
We also discussed the timeline for reading each of these books, If we were to read one a month it would take us just under a year and a half to read them all so in order to speed that up a little we have decided as the first three books in the Mortal Instruments series is a little on the shorter side we will read and discuss one every three weeks. So here is the schedule for the first three books to mark in your calander
1-19th June Read –
City of Bones Discussion post – Sat 20th June
21st June -10th July Read –
City of Ashes Discussion Post – Sat 11th July
12th -31st July Read –
City of Glass Discussion post – Sat 1st Aug
We will announce the posting schedule for the Infernal devices on our August 1st discussion post. We would love for you to join in. If you have already read the series and want to chat about it. if you have always wanted to read it and just haven’t plucked them from your shelves we want to hear your thoughts too. Join us in the discussion in the Comments!
